Inverness as seen from Tomnahurich Hill, a tree-covered hillock on the outskirts of the town. The spire in the centre of the picture is of the Old High Church, the original parish church of Inverness. The castle buildings can be seen to the right of the church. Occupying the site of an older castle, the present building was completed in 1834-35, with the County Prison section being added in 1843. The large building on the right of the picture is Inverness Episcopalian Cathedral, built in 1866-67
