Cartoon ridiculing the Caledonian Banking Company, 1878-79. This bank, established in Inverness in 1838, found itself in financial difficulties in 1878 when, as a shareholder, it became liable for part of the City of Glasgow Bank's £6 million failure. It suspended trading, as illustrated in this cartoon, but confidence was soon restored and it reopened on 30th June 1879
