Chief Constable J MacDonald in Inverness High Street

Chief Constable J MacDonald in Inverness High Street. The first police force to be set up in the Highlands was the Inverness-shire force, in 1840. The following year, it was agreed that this county force provide policing services for the burgh of Inverness which it did until 1847 when Inverness's own Burgh Police Force was set up with its headquarters in Castle Wynd. In 1968, the burgh and county forces reunited to form the Inverness Constabulary. With the local government reorganisation in 1975, the Northern, the Ross & Sutherland, and the Inverness Constabularies all merged to form the current Northern Constabulary
