A photograph showing the Scottish-American industrialist, Andrew Carnegie, posing in a horse-drawn carriage with some other gentlemen, in front of Balmoral Lodge.

Located in Strathpeffer, 4 miles west of the town of Dingwall, Balmoral Lodge was built from whinstone with sandstone dressings and opened in 1890. It is now a home for the elderly and is known as Strathallan House.

Born in 25 November 1835, Andrew Carnegie was the founder of the Carnegie Steel Company, and was the wealthiest man in the world during the later years of his life. He was also a major philanthropist, both in the US and in Scotland.
