Horse Fair in Bank Street, Inverness, c1894

Until the second half of the nineteenth century livestock markets were held at the southern end of Waterloo Bridge to coincide with the five annual fairs held in or near the High Street. These fairs lasted for three days. Livestock markets were then moved across the river to the Capel Inch area of the town. However, horse fairs were still occasionally held close to Inverness town centre.
