Battle of Culloden Medal

The Battle of Culloden medal was probably awarded only to officers of the government army though there is no indication of any official authorisation for such a commemorative medal. It was struck in gold, silver and copper and worn round the neck on a crimson ribbon with green edging. The gold medals were awarded to officers commanding regiments. Those of silver and copper were probably awarded to lesser ranking officers.

On one side is a bust of the Duke of Cumberland, on the other an Apollo leaning upon his bow and pointing to a dragon wounded by his arrow.

The Battle was fought on 16 April 1746
