Photograph of a 1746 print of the Battle of Culloden. At the bottom of the print can be seen the words "Published according to Act of Parliament May 8 1746".
The Duke of Cumberland's men can be seen on horseback at the left of the sketch.

After the victory of the government army at Culloden, the Duke of Cumberland returned to London to a hero's welcome. The flower 'Sweet William' was named after him and Handel composed a piece called 'The Conquering Hero' to greet him. His personal allowance was also raised from £15, 000 a year to £40, 000, in gratitude for his efforts at Culloden.

The battle took place on 16 April 1746
