MacPhail, chaplain to the poorhouse. Inverness Poorhouse was built in 1859-1861, near to Old Edinburgh Road. It was designed by James Matthews and William Lawrie. The poorhouse came to be known as Muirfield Institution in later years, and then became Hilton Hospital. Today the buildings have been converted into flats
