A drawing of Newtonmore War Memorial.

The inscription on this 9 metre high stone monument reads "ERECTED BY THE INHABITANTS OF NEWTONMORE AND DISTRICT IN LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY 1914-1918 1939-1945 / BEING DEAD YET SPEAKETH." The names of 44 men are also inscribed.

This work is from a collection of drawings and sketches by the popular writer and illustrator, Mairi Hedderwick. They all have some connection to the village of Newtonmore and many of them also represent the game of shinty. Mairi Hedderwick is best known as the author and illustrator of the much loved Katie Morag series of children's books.
