This is a drawing of Glen Banchor, near Newtonmore. The glen was controversially cleared in the 1870s by its owner, Colonel MacPherson of Belleville.

This work is from a collection of drawings and sketches by the popular writer and illustrator, Mairi Hedderwick. They all have some connection to the village of Newtonmore and many of them also represent the game of shinty. Mairi Hedderwick is best known as the author and illustrator of the much loved Katie Morag series of children's books.
