This is one of a series of sketches concerning the game of shinty. It is untitled and shows a Newtonmore player with two camans and a trophy.

Newtonmore Camanachd was founded in 1895 and is one of the most successful clubs in the history of the sport. At the time of writing (2010) they have won the sports premier competition, the Camanachd Cup, on 28 occasions.

This work is from a collection of drawings and sketches by the popular writer and illustrator, Mairi Hedderwick. They all have some connection to the village of Newtonmore and many of them also represent the game of shinty. Mairi Hedderwick is best known as the author and illustrator of the much loved Katie Morag series of children's books.
