In this picture, Messrs McEwen, Whitelaw, David and Roberts can be seen.

William Whitelaw (1868-1946) was Chairman of Highland Railway and later of the North British and of the LNER. He was educated in Harrow and Cambridge University and served as MP for Perth City between 1892 and 1895. William Whitelaw was the grandfather of famous Conservative politician Sir William Whitelaw (1918-1999) who served in Mrs Thatcher's government.

William Roberts was Engineer-in-Chief of the Highland Railway from 1898 to 1913. In 1870 he was involved in surveying the Sutherland & Caithness Railway and was its resident engineer until 1874. He then worked for Hector Mackenzie on the Dunfermline & Inverkeithing Railway, the Eglinton Tunnel, Stobcross Dock and the East India Railway before returning to the Highlands.
