Alexander Newlands CBE M.Inst.CE JP was a railway engineer.

Early in his career, Newlands supervised the construction of the railway to Kyle of Lochalsh which included making some of the deepest rock cuttings in Scotland.

From 1914-22 Newlands was the Chief Engineer at the Highland Railway. At the time of the grouping, he moved to the LMS (London Midland and Scottish Railway) in Crewe and eventually became Chief Civil Engineer for the company.

Alexander Newlands died in Glasgow in 1938 at the age of 68.
