Commercial Bank, Kyle of Lochalsh

The Kyle Branch of the Commercial Bank, now the Royal Bank of Scotland, was built in 1896 in a central position on Main Street in Kyle of Lochalsh. The bank was built to provide a financial service for the population which increased dramatically when the railway was extended from Stromeferry, reaching Kyle in 1897. The building has an asymetrical design with canted bay windows at one corner, surmounted by a conical roof tower. The Kyle Hotel, on the left, is one of the few buildings in Kyle dating from before the arrival of the railway
