Helen Keller on the Skye ferry

Helen Keller (1880 - 1968) was an American author and lecturer. She was blind and deaf from the age of two, but was taught to read, write, use sign language and speak by Anne Sullivan Macy. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1904 and became famous for her work for the handicapped. Duncan Macpherson must have photographed her during a tour of the Highlands. As his Pharmacy was situated close to the jetty for the ferry, he was in a good position to view all the coming and going.
