Pier at Kyleakin

A ferry has been running between Kyle of Lochalsh and Kyleakin on Skye since the 17th century, but the route became more important after the railway to Kyle of Lochalsh was completed. The ferry boat from Kyle is seen here approaching the pier at Kyleakin, with Caisteal Maol in the background. The castle probably dates from the late 15th century and was held by the MacKinnon clan until the early 17th century
