Pioneer Stores, Kyle of Lochalsh

The corrugated iron building in the centre of the photograph is the Pioneer Stores, owned by Alexander MacRae, known as the Pioneer or Pie. He lived for some time at Stromeferry, but moved to Kyle when the railway was extended. His daughter, Johann, worked in the shop for many years. The Pioneer Stores was reputed to sell everything "from a needle to an anchor" and was situated on Main St. in Kyle of Lochalsh. The small white building at the far end is MacGregor's tweed shop. The post office is on the extreme left of the photograph
