Balmacara Hotel is the large building on the right of the photograph, and the General Stores the white building in the centre. The photograph was taken looking North up the narrows of Loch Alsh with the mountains of Skye in the far distance. The Balmacara Estate was bought by Sir Daniel Hamilton just after World War I. He and his wife were great benefactors of the local community, and on Lady Hamilton's death in 1946, the Estate was taken over by the National Trust for Scotland
