Gravestone of Neil Finlay Matheson, Kirkton Graveyard, Lochalsh

This gravestone stands alongside that of Farquhar Matheson, a well known London doctor born in Dornie. Neil Finlay Matheson was his grandson, tragically killed as the gravestone states after a fall from a horse. Despite living and working in London all his life, his grandfather seems to have kept links with his home and family, becoming President of the Gaelic Society of London in 1896. Neil was the son of Dr Farquhar MacKenzie Matheson and his wife Maud. Their names were later added to this stone : Dr Farquhar MacKenzie Matheson of Harrow. Died 21 January 1937 aged 63 years. Loved by all who knew him. Bhair esan cadal do fhear a'charaid, Psalm CXXV11 2 and also In everloving memory of his wife Maud Madeline Matheson. Died London 30 March 1942
