The current building at Kingussie High School was opened in October 1970. As part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary in 2010, several pupils at Kingussie High School recently took part in oral history recordings during the school's activity weeks at the end of the academic year.

In this extract, Calum Johnston is being interviewed by Josh Brannan.

Interviewer: What is your name and age and what year are you in?

Calum: My name is Calum Johnston, I'm thirteen, near enough fourteen, and I'm in second year.

Interviewer: Where do you live and how do you get to school?

Calum: I live in Newtonmore and I get the bus to school every day with my friends.

Interviewer: What do you wear to school and are you happy with school uniform?

Calum: I wear a white shirt, black trousers, and a tie with the school colours on it. I don't think - I'm not happy with the school uniform because it is a bit boring and not much to it.

Interviewer: What do you do at interval and lunch time and what do you usually eat?

Calum: At interval and lunch I just kind of hang around with my friends. We don't usually do that much and at lunch I eat, usually go to the chippie. Every day, really.

Interviewer: Do you ever play games and sports at school, either before classes, in the interval, or at lunch time?

Calum: Most of the time I don't play any sports at any of the times and if we do, it's usually football.

Interviewer: What are your favourite subjects at school and why don't you like, and what don't you like?

Calum: My favourite subjects are probably techie and PE and I hate RE.

Interviewer: Which teachers do you think you'll remember once you've left school and what will you remember about them?

Calum: Miss Kunz because she is foreign and her accent's quite funny and Mr Webster cos he's always shouting at us.

Interviewer: What do you hope to do once you leave school?

Calum: Go to college and then get a well-paid job.
