The 165ft (49m) pinnacle of basalt rock, a few miles north of Portree, is known as the Old Man of Storr, standing as it does in front of The Storr, a mass of rock rising to a height of 2,358ft (719m). The pinnacle is part of a massive landslip creating a bizarre landscape which fascinates visitors and geologists alike
