Isleornsay, or Eilean Iarmain as it is better known, lies on the east coast of Skye, looking across the Sound Of Sleat to the hills of Knoydart. The bay was once a busy herring port, and the island still has a lighthouse, built in 1857. Like the lighthouse cottages on Eilean Ban near Kyle of Lochalsh, the cottages here were once owned by Gavin Maxwell, author of 'Ring of Bright Water'
