Uig is a crofting and fishing village in north west Skye attractively set round a sheltererd bay where currently a ferry service runs to Harris and North Uist. The tower,or folly, faintly discernible in the centre of the photograph, was built around 1840 by a Captain Fraser who owned most of Kilmuir at the time. Uig Free Church, on the hill to the left of the tower, was built in 1847
