This photograph shows the Balmacara Hotel, with the shore of Loch Alsh to the right. The ruins on the left of the hotel became MacRae, Jones Stores. The Balmacara Estate was bought by Sir Daniel Hamilton just after World War I. He and his wife were great benefactors of the local community, and on Lady Hamilton's death in 1946, the estate was taken over by the National Trust for Scotland
