This view of Kyleakin looks east towards the mainland, with Eilean Ban on the far left and the ruins of Caisteal Maol on the far right. Kyleakin has been the main crossing point between Skye and the mainland for at least four centuries. In the 19th Century, Lord Macdonald proposed the building of a model town on the site, to be called New Liverpool, however the plan never materialised
