Sacred Heart Hospital, Daliburgh, South Uist

In his book 'Lure of the West', Duncan Macpherson describes a trip that he made with his wife to the Western Isles, visiting Lewis, Harris, the Uists, Barra and Eriskay. The Sacred Heart Hospital, pictured, was in Daliburgh, South Uist and was run by nuns of the Sacred Heart Order. It is now closed, but the nuns are remembered locally in street names, such as Leonard Place and Casimir Place, named after them. The building was previously known as the Bute Hospital, probably because it was endowed by the then Marquis of Bute
