At the time of this photograph, the road disappearing into the distance was the only road into Kyle of Lochalsh, running past Erbusaig on the shore to the right. The road merging from the left was from Balmacara. The present A87 main road, which runs along the shore from Balmacara, was built in the late 1960s along the route of a footpath. The road in the foreground ran between Plockton, Duirinish and Kyle. The building on the left is the old school which was in more recent times a restaurant
