Highland Cow

Although the horns make the Highland cows look rather fearsome, they are usually very docile unless with their calf. In his book Gateway to Skye, Duncan Macpherson describes an encounter with a Highland cow - "a magnificent specimen in a field". Shortly after approaching it with his camera he found himself lying on his back with the beast standing over him. Although rather dazed, he was just relieved that his camera was undamaged. As his companion then pointed out, there was perhaps a reason for the animal to be behind a fence when the rest of the herd was allowed to roam by the roadside. "Wise after the event", as Macpherson commented
