Young girls spinning

The young girls pictured at their spinning wheels are probably taking part in either a spinning competition or demonstration, which was part of a regular event held in the Summer on the playing fields in Kyle of Lochalsh. Traditional skills were still encouraged at this time and an exhibition was organised each Autumn as a showcase of Highland village industries. It was held in the Kyle hall and attracted visitors and locals alike to view and buy the home-spun tweeds, knitted stockings, walking sticks and other crafts, as well as produce such as honey, fruit and vegetables
