Strathpeffer had the strongest sulphur springs in Britain, and as such was very popular, attracting such diverse people as Mrs Pankhurst and Sir Ernest Shackleton. Duncan Macpherson spent a number of seasons working as an assistant in the local pharmacy during his twenties, before moving to Kyle of Lochalsh in 1912.
