Originally built by Sir Alexander Matheson, the now named Lochalsh Hotel has undergone many changes over the years. Sir Kenneth Matheson, son of Alexander, sold the lodge to the railway company c1897, and it remained in the ownership of the London Midland Scottish Railway until the 1940s. Situated near the jetty in Kyle of Lochalsh, the hotel has splendid views to the Isle of Skye, and has been a perfect base for tourists for many years
