With the Captain at Kyle pier

Kyle railway pier was a hive of activity with regular visits by steamers en route for Skye and Stornoway. This group is believed to include Lewis relatives of the photographer Duncan Macpherson's wife, who was a MacIver. Captain MacArthur, pictured with them, was a well-known skipper of the S.S. 'Lochness' on the Mallaig - Kyle - Stornoway route and latterly the Lochseaforth.
