The Glenelg Hotel overlooked Glenelg Bay, towards Skye. In his book 'Gateway to Skye', written sometime before 1939, Duncan Macpherson describes the hotel as "a commodious building with an imposing frontage, beautifully situated". The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1947
