As Duncan Macpherson, the photographer, said in his book Gateway To Skye, 'a walk around the railway pier proved a never-ending source of interest'. Macpherson took pleasure in recording the everyday activities of the busy Kyle pier - fishing boats unloading their catch, passengers waiting for the Stornoway boat, and goods and travellers on the Inverness rail line. This photograph provides a good view of this everyday life. The group of people carrying extra coats, umbrellas and satchels are waiting for a ferry. A railway wagon is on the turntable on the end of the pier
