Duncan Macpherson took this photograph of what could have been called the 'business district' of Kyle of Lochalsh. To the right is the large white building which was the Commercial Bank, later becoming the Royal Bank of Scotland. Behind it, not fully visible is the Kyle Hotel. Trees lined one side of Main Street, and facing are the Pioneer Stores, and the large building with 4 dormer windows, which housed the post office and Bank of Scotland. To the left of the photograph is a general merchants, Murchison and MacLennan, and finally Duncan Macpherson's Pharmacy. Situated above the jetty, and at the corner of the main streets in the village, Macphersons was an ideal location for visitors and villagers to meet people and get caught up on the local news
