Kyleakin, Isle of Skye

The more picturesque part of the village of Kyleakin features in this postcard. It is described on the reverse as: "Kyleakin with its little white cottages is a pleasant introduction to Skye for all who cross by ferry from Kyle. On the left of the picture is the ruined Castle Moil." Perhaps the most well known visitors to the island were the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, in September 1933. Having travelled to Kyle by train, they did not arrive by ferry on Skye, but were transported across from the mainland by private yacht. The Royal party were welcomed at Dunvegan Castle and Portree, where the new Elgin Hostel for Boys was officially opened
