Post Office, Ardvasar, Skye

On a warm sunny day, the door and windows of the Ardvasar Post Office are wide open, while a neighbouring family turn the hay to dry it before stacking. The first Post Office was established in the village in 1863, and this corrugated iron shed served as the office for many years during the twentieth century. It is situated close to the single track road just a few yards from the Ardvasar Hotel, between Armadale and Aird of Sleat at the southern end of the Sleat peninsula. A letterbox is fitted into the right hand window. After moving to various different sites, the sub-post office was taken over in 2009 by the Sleat Community Trust after it was threatened with closure. The office is now situated within the petrol station close to Armadale pier.
