Panorama of Plockton and Loch Carron

This panoramic photograph of Plockton was taken from across the inlet of Loch Carron which gives Plockton its sheltered location. The tidal section to the left of the picture is known as the Obbe, and the photograph was taken from close to the shore, below the railway line which extends from Stromeferry through to Kyle of Lochalsh. The photographer was Duncan Macpherson, the Pharmacist in Kyle of Lochalsh from 1912 until the mid-1950s. He had a keen interest in photography and recorded the landscape, social activity and people of his local area for many years. From his Chemist's shop in Kyle, situated close to the jetty from where the ferry left for Skye, he sold postcards produced from his images, such as this early panorama showing the village of Plockton with snow highlighting the hills of Applecross in the background.
