Inverness High Street looking towards Eastgate

Throughout its history, Inverness High Street has been occupied mainly by merchants' businesses. In former days, it was the site of most of the town's markets. Today, the High Street is a pedestrianised precinct with a blend of traditional Scottish shops, High Street chain stores and eating establishments.

At the end of the High Street can be seen the Eastgate Shopping Centre completed in 1983. It replaced the former tenement buildings which were destroyed to make room for it.
