Original Ptarmigan restaurant, Cairngorm

Cairngorm ski resort development began in the 1960s and the resort is the second largest in Scotland. Most of the skiing is concentrated in the Coire Cas area of the mountain.

This photograph shows the old Ptarmigan restaurant at the ski resort. It stood just 150m from the summit of Cairn Gorm and was reached by a two-stage chairlift. The restaurant was removed in 2001 to make way for the new visitor centre and top station for the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, which also includes a new Ptarmigan restaurant.
