This Gaelic song was one of the entries in Nòs Ùr (New Style), a new Celtic and Scots Languages Song Competition, held at Eden Court, Inverness. The competition was a regional final for the pan-European minority languages song competition 'Liet Lavlut' which was held in Lulea, Sweden, in October 2008.

This song was composed by Phamie Gow, award winning Scottish composer and multi-instrumentalist. It is sung here by James Graham, a Gaelic singer from Lochinver. He is accompanied on the piano by Phamie.

Bu Tusa An Gaol a Bh'air M'aire

Measg nan tìrean móra is beaga
Dhan fhaicear do shamhuil gu sìor
Air na raointean tha lom-fhàs no torrach,
a sgaoileadh do dheàrrsachd nach ciar

Bu tusa an gaol a bh'air m'aire
An latha sheòl sgoil gu mo chùl,
Bu tusa an tìr-nan-òg farsuing
'Sam bithinn nam dhealain gun stiùir

O thug thu dhomh cead air do liosan
Is thug thu dhomh saorsa do mhàim,
Deoch-slàinte a fuaran do mhìlseachd
Is lìonmhorachd mhaorach 'o d' thràigh

O thug thu dhomh fasgadh do dhoirean,
Mo bhuidheachas dhearcan is chnò,
Is rinn thu de liad réidh do linne
Dhomh amar dlùth seasgair gun sgòr

O dh'fhosgail thu gart gorm do chridhe
Is shìn thu riùm tiodhlac do phòg,
'S ged nach fan teas do ghréin leam
gu sìorruidh 's tu 'n tìr anns am fuirich mi òg.

The English translates as:

You were the love on my mind
Among all the great lands and small lands
You equal will never be found on their fields,
Whether fertile or barren,
As you spread your unquenchable light

You were the love on my mind
The day school sailed into my wake,
And you were the broad paradise
Where I'd dazzle the world without cares

You gave me the run of your gardens,
The freedom to roam your soft hills,
I sipped life from the well of your sweetness,
All the good I found, took from your shores

You gave me your copses for shelter,
My fill of sweet nuts and ripe fruit,
Your broad firths you made for my safety
A close sheltered pool without reef

You opened your heart's fresh green orchard,
With the gift of your kiss you touched me,
Though your sun's heat can't warm me forever,
You're the land where I'll stay ever young
