The Royal Bank of Scotland, Portree

The Royal Bank of Scotland (Banca Rìoghail na h-Alba) was founded in 1727 to provide a Hanoverian and Whig bank as an alternative to the Bank of Scotland (founded 1695) which was particularly effective in raising funds for the Jacobite cause.

Gaelic is used on some Royal Bank of Scotland buildings, like this one in Portree. It is also possible to be issued with a bilingual cheque book. Gaelic is not used on the bank's website or for contracts and bank notes.
