Inverness Castle in snow

This is a view of Inverness Castle in the late 1950s. The photograph was taken from Bank Street. At the extreme right of the image, the castellated arch of the old suspension bridge can just be seen. This was demolished in 1959.

The red sandstone castle evident today was built in 1833-36 to a plan by William Burn of Edinburgh but the site has been occupied by various fortified structures since the 11th century. Today, the castle serves as an administrative centre and courthouse.

The car nearest to the camera, a Ford Zephyr, was registered to Albert Joseph Rizzia of Druid Road, Inverness, in June 1956.
