Nairn MacEwan with Rugby Group, Academy Street, Inverness

This image was recently highlighted in Am Baile's 'Picture Detective' feature, run in conjunction with the Inverness Courier. The gentleman on the left is Nairn MacEwan. He is throwing the rugby ball to Gordon Brown. Both men were Scottish international rugby players and Brown also played for the British Lions. They are in Inverness to open a new branch of the Scottish Building Society.

Nairn MacEwan was capped 20 times for Scotland between 1971 and 1975 and went on to coach the national team. He was also instrumental in the rise of Highland Rugby Football Club in 1970s.

Gordon Brown was capped 30 times by Scotland and appeared eight times for the British Lions. After retiring from the game he became a branch manager for the Scottish Building Society. He died from cancer in March 2001, aged 53.

The piper is Alex Miller of the British Legion Pipe Band.
