McIan Postcard: Piper

This untitled postcard is part of a collection of cards at the Highland Folk Museum, Kingussie, based on the work of the artist R R McIan. It shows two children and their dog listening to a piper, while a woman knits in the background. On the reverse of the card is a handwritten message of a later date:

'Regret to hear of your dog's condition.
Fleas are bad, & I can never forget the Great War type of crawler, but hedgehogs! it must be terrible trying to scratch them off - poor dog.

The Antidote
Partin Bree & Powsowdie
mixed in equal proportions
& allowed to ferment in
a coos bledder
Applied externally it has never failed to kill.

Acid Drop'

Partan bree is a traditional Scottish soup made of crab, and powsowdie is sheep's-head broth. The author recommends fermenting the mixture in a cow's bladder
