Pipe band from the Brigade of Gurkhas, Fort George. These soldiers take their name from the state of Gurkha in Nepal. They originally served in the |ndian army but after the partitioning of India in 1947, certain regiments were integrated into the British Army to form the Brigade of Ghurkas, as we know them today.

Gurkhas are renowned for their fine characters and fighting skills. Over 200,000 fought alongside the British in World War I. As at 1 August 2001, there were some 3,400 Gurkhas in the British Army
