Carbisdale Pony Trekking

In the middle of the 20th century, Commander Jock Kerr Hunter joined the Scottish Council of Physical Recreation. His ambition was to get more young people into the countryside. He recognised that riding presented a unique opportunity to get people into the countryside using the drove roads and youth hostels while also learning to care for an animal.

To describe this form of outdoor activity, Commander Hunter created the term pony trekking
