Cameron Highlanders at Inverness Airport

Pipers of the Cameron Highlanders boarding a flight at Inverness airport.

British European Airways (BEA) was founded in August 1946 as part of the British state airline. The company commenced its Scottish routes with two ex- Lufthansa/Luftwaffe Junkers Ju-52/3M passenger planes - renamed Jupiters by BEA. These planes proved very unpopular with passengers and were replaced, within a year, with a Douglas DC-3 Pionair.

Air services from Inverness used either the Longman Aerodrome or the RAF airfield at Dalcross
