A photograph of Princess Alice, the Duchess of Gloucester, giving a speech during her visit to Cromarty in 1956. She made the visit to name what was to be Cromarty's last lifeboat, the 'Lilla Marras, Douglas and Will'.

Princess Alice was born on Christmas Day 1901, the daughter of John Montagu Douglas Scott, 7th Duke of Buccleuch & 9th Duke of Queensberry and Lady Margaret Bridgman. On 6 November 1935, she married Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and they had two sons: Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Richard of Gloucester.
