Trophy Room

Room decorated with stags' head trophies and weapons. Photograph commissioned by Sir A P Gordon-Cumming of Altyre House, near Forres, and taken on 18 January 1932. It is therefore assumed that the photograph was taken on the Altyre Estate. It is possible, however, that it depicts a shooting lodge elsewhere.

Books on hunting by members of the same family include 'A hunter's life in South Africa' by Roualeyn Gordon Cumming (Murray, no date) and 'Five Years of a Hunter's Life in the Far Interior of South Africa. With notices of the native tribes, and anecdotes of the chase of the lion, elephant, hippopotamus, giraffe, rhinoceros, &c' by the same author (London: Murray, 1850). Altyre House was renovated by Sir William Gordon Cumming at the end of the 19th Century with John Kinross as its architect and demolished in 1962
